Week 5: Assignment 1

How are students “smart” in different ways? Traditionally, students are seen as smart if they do well linguistically, or mathematically. However, there are many different kinds of intelligences, including Spatial, musical, interpersonal, intra-personal, linguistic and more. Different students are good at all kinds of things. Just because someone's main strength is musical and not linguistic that doesn't meant they are not smart. It just means that they are smart in a different way. How can teachers use multiple intelligences in the classroom? Teachers can take advantage of students' multiple intelligences by giving entry points of understanding to students who don't do well with traditional learning styles, like lectures. Teachers should design their lessons with as many intelligences as they can so that more students can have a full grasp of the material.  Additionally, teaching things in many ways can help individual students, because when a student learns so...

Week 4: Assigment 3

The article about the new technology SMILE, was very interesting and thought provoking. This new technology helps students and teachers implement questions in the classroom. It teaches how to ask questions. This shows that the skill of asking questions is one that can be taught and requires practice. This technology seemed to be very effective if it was used constantly. I imagine that students need proficient reading and writing skills in order to participate in SMILE, which students from ...

Week 4: Assignment 1

In stage 1 of Understanding by Design, there are a few parts. Established goals should be based on content standards. These are the long term goals that the teacher needs to make sure not to lose focus of. In my assignment last week my established goals were based off the content standards. It is important to simplify the content standards into bite size chunks. The next part of Stage 1 UbD is Understandings. These should be the big ideas which are transferable. These big ideas are the meat and potatoes of the content. The meaningful part of the content and they connect the facts with necessary skills. In my Stage 1 outline, I looked at the established goals to determine what are the main things that the students need to understand. Essential Questions should guide students towards theses understandings. They guide children through the lessons so that they are learning on their own. The teacher must make sure that these questions lead the children through the content and will help t...
