Week 5: Assignment 1

  • How are students “smart” in different ways?
Traditionally, students are seen as smart if they do well linguistically, or mathematically. However, there are many different kinds of intelligences, including Spatial, musical, interpersonal, intra-personal, linguistic and more. Different students are good at all kinds of things. Just because someone's main strength is musical and not linguistic that doesn't meant they are not smart. It just means that they are smart in a different way.
  • How can teachers use multiple intelligences in the classroom?
Teachers can take advantage of students' multiple intelligences by giving entry points of understanding to students who don't do well with traditional learning styles, like lectures. Teachers should design their lessons with as many intelligences as they can so that more students can have a full grasp of the material. Additionally, teaching things in many ways can help individual students, because when a student learns something in many ways, they will gain a broader understanding of the topic.

Teaching Philosophy: In the past couple of years, the education world has shifted to incorporate technology. This shift to a more technologically focused education system, is a direct result of the technologically centered world we live in. Students must be well-trained to enter the world. As a teacher, I believe that it is very important for me to be fluent in the technological advancements going on in the world, to teach students how to use this technology through teaching with and about technology. One of my main beliefs is that the teacher must be constantly learning in order to expect her students to learn. The best teachers are the ones who really know their stuff. As a teacher who wants to implement technology, it is my job to stay on top of all the new technologies and only then can I implement them in my classroom. One way I can do this is by joining education centered social media groups and blogs who discuss ways to incorporate technology. Another wa...
